Philip F. Spahn Jr. of Conesus Lake purchased this “all original” 4cyl Dodge Watercar (originally named “SPRAY”) from James W. Crowley on August 25, 1988 (Boliver, NY). Spahn discovered the boat hanging in a boathouse on Cuba Lake at the Crowley summer residence. "Spray"'s original owner was Joseph J Nenno. Nenno was the owner of the Davis and Nenno Clothing Company in Olean, NY. Joseph passed away in 1942. Nenno sold "Spray"'' to it's second owner in 1940, Vincent C. Taylor. Taylor owned the “Taylor Made Butter” in Olean, NY. Taylor owned the boat until his passing at which time his wife found a new home for "Spray"' on Cuba Lake. Its third owner was James Crowley, a Cuba Lake local and union mason. Crowley enjoyed the boat for almost 20 years on Cuba Lake before selling it to Spahn. Martini took ownership of the boat on May 1, 2009.
"Spray" is an extremely original example of a 22' 6" Model 4-22 Dodge Watercar. Spray features its original single planked wood bottom, African mahogany deck and sides, Atlantic Cedar Bulkhead, Varnished Firewall, Original 4cyl 30 HP Motor, Dodge Amps and Oil Pressure Gauges, Wood Steering Wheel, Brass Hardware, Pullman Globe on the Stern Pole
"Spray" was refinished at Armstrong Boat Works in Fayetteville NY and by Lance Wilson in Guntersville, Alabama. The engine was restored by Bill Drake in Rochester, NY, prior to his death in 2016.
